American League
  • MIN 7 @ DET 5
Detroit took an early lead and appeared to answer every Twins' rally until Brant Alyea singled home Leo Cardenas with two outs in the seventh.
  • BOS 14 @ MIL 0
Boston sent the Brewers down in flames to their 13th straight defeat with a 14-0 rout. Carl Yastrzemski homered twice and Luis Alvarado drove in four with a paif of doubles.
  • NYY 1 @ OAK 3
Jim "Catfish" Hunter evened his record to 3-3 with a four-hit complete game. Felipe Alou's two-run double broke a 1-1 deadlock in the eighth.
National League
  • SDP 4 @ PHI 2
Dave Campbell hit for the cycle as the improbable Padres won their fourth straight and gained a game on Cincinnati.

Campbell's 2-run HR in the 5th was the deciding factor in the game. He completed the cycle in the ninth with a two-out single, and then was picked off first base by Phils' reliever Barry Lersch.

Campbell was acquired in the off-season from Detroit in a trade that also sent Pat Dobson to San Diego in exchange for Joe Niekro. The trade thusfar is paying solid dividends for the Padres.
