The Angels placed Fred Newman on the disabled list. “I’ll be happy if I’m pitching by the All-Star break,” confided Newman. The tendinitis in his right shoulder requires a complete rest and the 24-year-old right hander was not allowed to touch a baseball for two weeks. He will receive cortisone shots and therapy. The Angels replaced Newman with southpaw Clyde Wright, who was 9-0 at El Paso (Texas) when purchased.
