The Mets have losing streaks of twelve and six games this season so it was a surprise to all that the club managed wins in ten of their last eleven games. The streak has come at the expense of the Chicago Cubs, which the Mets have defeated in eight of ten games this season, and may have spared manager Wes Westrum from a pink slip in the first half of this season.

The offense has picked up with 14 home runs in the last 11 games. Ron Swoboda has clouted four of the homers, and infielder Jerry Buchek three, including a dramatic grand slam in yesterday’s win. Leadoff hitter Bud Harrelson is setting the table with a .341 average in the last 11 games. The pitching has been even more impressive with a club ERA of 1.55 since June 6. Tom Seaver and newly-recalled Dick Selma have two complete game victories in this streak. Ron Taylor has bolstered the bull pen with five scoreless appearances.
