Brabender Wins First By Blanking Reeling A's

Gene Brabender (1-5) won his first major league game after forty appearances over two years with a three-hit shutout against the Kansas City A’s. The loss is Kansas City’s sixth straight and second under new manager Luke Appling. The club is in disarray over the recent firing of manager Alvin Dark and the release of first baseman Ken Harrelson who batted .308 in 55 games for the A’s this season.

Russ Snyder led the way for the Orioles with three base hits, including a two-run roundtripper in the fourth inning that broke the game open. Brabender added to his own support with a two-run single in a four-run Oriole second inning off A’s starter Chuck Dobson (7-11).
