New York Yankee Mickey Mantle passed Jimmie Foxx on the home run list with his 535th career home run in second game of last night’s double header sweep against the Washington Senators. Mantle led off the top of the sixth inning with a towering shot into the right field bleachers at D.C. Stadium. The first pitch salvo came off Senators starter Jim Hannan. Roy White followed with a double and Joe Pepitone sent Hannan to the showers with a two-run homer to give the visitors a 5-1 lead. The Yankees finished off the sweep with a 6-1 win. Mel Stottlemyre blanks the Senators in the opener, 5-0.

In reality, there’s a better story to Mantle’s No. 535. Here it yourself from Mickey.
